Actually, I'd Say Minnie's a Black Belt



The other day, a friend of mine, who happens to be a talented martial artist and Empowerment Self Defense instructor, posted this photo.


I’m not even going to touch the issue of the pink and the blue.


I’m way more concerned about her point that:


“Hmmm... girl's obviously got some skills: flexible, kick is badass, hands in the correct position. Mickey looks like he's posing for Instagram. But Minnie got a white belt and Mickey a black?”

Right. Cause I am pretty sure Mickey Mouse did not work harder than Minnie to get his black belt.


I mean, really????


What examples of subtle or not so subtle socialization have you seen recently? How can we counteract these messages?
