Freud. You Might Have Heard of Him

The following was written by El HaLev instructor Tamar Frank in response to the horrific events that recently took place in Eilat, Israel:

Freud. You might have heard of him.

At the beginning of the 20th century, he went around mental institutions and interviewed the women there.

What he found was disturbing - many of the women spoke about being molested and raped by family members.

Freud decided it couldn’t be true - no way there were so many men who would choose to harm little girls.

So he stated that it must be fabricated by the women - that they are expressing hidden fantasies and desires, and there is no way they are talking about real attacks.

Thanks to that, for many decades women did not get the support and the much-needed therapy because society claimed that, “It is improbable. The women must be making it up to get attention “.

Today, we (sadly) know the truth - but at least women are finally getting the support they need.

Today, we (sadly) know the truth - but at least women are finally getting the support they need.

I have been reading about people claiming that, “No way 30 men stood in line to rape that girl. It’s been blown out of proportion, it’s too terrible to be true, she probably invited them to her room”.

Let us enter the 21st century. Let us learn from history.

Let us put all our efforts into support, education, and fixing our society, and not waste them on blaming the victims.
